Septic System
Septic System Management Program: There are three governmental agencies – Tri-County Health Department, Adams County and the Todd Creek Village Metropolitan District have varying levels of authority to require a program of on-going maintenance of septic systems.
Tri-County Health Department: This entity is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, cleaning schedules and practices to ensure proper functioning of an Onsite Wastewater System (OWS) often referred to as a septic system. The Tri-County Health Department requires that a septic tank be pumped and inspected every four years.
Adams County: There is a countywide program for the management of septic systems. The program requires all new subdivisions in Adams County that are served by on-site wastewater systems (OWS). Program elements include inspection, pumping and reporting any problems to Tri-County Health Department .
Todd Creek Village Metropolitan District: In the District’s Rules and Regulations, residents or proposed service users maintaining individual septic systems (OWS) must comply with the Tri-County Health Department’s pumping and maintenance of their septic system so as to not adversely impact the community’s water supply. The District has the right to inspect an individual septic system during construction, as well as during operation to ensure compliance.
Many homes in the District’s service area are on a septic system, which is why we have a Septic Management Program. The purpose of the Program is to ensure preventive maintenance on all of the septic systems.
Periodic inspections allow for early detection of system defects or problems, while regular pumping keeps the system working efficiently. Together, inspections and maintenance can help avoid costly system failures and prevent sewage releases that can negatively impact your family’s or your neighbors’ health. It’s important to know that if you have a septic system, you are required by Tri-County Health to have the system pumped every four years.
